Heavy Rain Recorded Across Several States

India's monsoon is in its final phase but remains active in the east and northeast, AajTak reported. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said eastern Uttar Pradesh, western Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and Mizoram recorded heavy rainfall of 7 to 11 centimetres in the 24 hours before September 8, according to livehindustan.com.

The heaviest totals were 12 cm at Long Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and at Amguri in Assam, the report said. Haldia in West Bengal recorded 10 cm, Muhammadi in Kheri district of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Kolasib in Mizoram each recorded 9 cm, Nabarangpur in Odisha recorded 8 cm, and Kurti in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Niwali in Barwani, western Madhya Pradesh, each recorded 7 cm.

New Systems Over Uttar Pradesh and the Bay of Bengal

IMD said a low pressure area has formed over Uttar Pradesh and is expected to bring moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning to the state and neighbouring regions over the next four days, livehindustan.com reported. AajTak said the system had moved from southwest Uttar Pradesh toward the state's central districts by Tuesday, September 8, combining with a trough, the monsoon trough, a western disturbance over the Himalayan region and a cyclonic circulation near northeastern Bihar and Assam.

A separate system is forming further east. IMD forecasts a low pressure area is likely to develop around September 11 over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, near the coasts of northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha, livehindustan.com reported.

Alerts Through Mid-September

livehindustan.com listed IMD's alerts for rain, thunderstorms and lightning: western Madhya Pradesh from September 8 to 11 and more widely from September 12 to 14; Chhattisgarh and eastern Madhya Pradesh from September 8 to 9 and more widely from September 10 to 14; and Vidarbha from September 8 to 14. IMD has also warned of extremely heavy rain in isolated places in Odisha on September 10 and in Arunachal Pradesh on September 12, with Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana under alert from September 11 to 14, and Madhya Pradesh from September 13 to 14.

Separately, Navbharat Times reported an alert covering 21 states for heavy rain within 18 hours around September 9, with wind speeds reaching up to 75 kilometres per hour, though the states involved were not detailed in the available report.

Delhi and Northern Plains Stay Mostly Dry

Rain has eased over Delhi-NCR. AajTak reported that after several days of rain, activity was expected to be lower on Tuesday than Monday, with partly cloudy skies, patches of haze, a maximum temperature of 34 to 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25 to 27 degrees. livehindustan.com said Delhi's maximum temperature had jumped 5 to 6 degrees Celsius in the preceding 24 hours.

Haryana and Punjab were forecast to stay hot and dry, with maximum temperatures around 36 and 37 degrees Celsius respectively, AajTak reported. Rajasthan was also expected to see mostly hazy, hot weather, though the Bharatpur, Jaipur and Kota divisions could see light to moderate rain, with more rain possible from September 12 to 13.
