OBS Studio: free software that combines scenes, camera and alerts into one broadcast and sends it to a platform.
Scene: a set of sources in OBS, for example camera, screen and text, shown together on stream.
Chat: the text channel viewers talk in, where the streamer also writes and responds.
Donation terms
Donation: an amount a viewer voluntarily sends to a streamer, usually with a message.
Donor: the person who sends a donation and, optionally, leaves a name or message.
Alert: an on-screen message that shows a donor's name and text when a donation comes in.
Payout: the process where an incoming donation is paid to the streamer's bank account, on Donator that means a Georgian bank in GEL.
Platform fee: a small share of a donation that keeps the service running and developing.
Technical terms
Browser Source: an OBS source type that shows a web page or a web element, such as an alert, directly on stream.
Overlay: a graphic element placed over the stream, for example a frame or a logo, shown on top of the video.
Bitrate: the amount of data sent per second while broadcasting, which directly affects live stream quality.
Multistreaming: broadcasting one stream to several platforms at once, for example Twitch and YouTube at the same time.
DonationAlerts and Streamlabs: streaming glossary for georgian creators and the local option
Many streamers search DonationAlerts or Streamlabs when they want setup or an alternative. For streaming glossary for georgian creators in Georgia, GEL payout is often the real friction.
On Donator the OBS alert shows right away, viewers pay with any card, and money goes to TBC or Bank of Georgia. You can keep the same alert habit and fix payouts locally.
DonationAlerts, Streamlabs, and other tools: what changes in Georgia
Many streamers start with DonationAlerts or Streamlabs, because those are the names people type when they search for an OBS donation alert, a donation page, or an alternative to a foreign tool. StreamElements often shows up in the same shortlist.
In Georgia those products are often built for other markets: foreign wallets, awkward withdrawals, or fees that never land cleanly in GEL. Patreon and PayPal still fit some creator formats, but they do not always replace live stream donations with payout to a Georgian bank.
Donator is built so a viewer can pay with any card, Georgian or foreign, the alert can show in OBS right away, and the money settles in GEL to TBC or Bank of Georgia. If you already used DonationAlerts or Streamlabs, you can keep the same alert habit and fix payouts locally.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to know every term before I start?
- No. It is enough to understand OBS, Browser Source and alert, you learn the rest over time.
- What is the difference between a donation and native platform monetization?
- Native platform monetization, such as Twitch bits or YouTube Super Chat, works inside that one platform. A donation runs on a service like Donator and works by link on any platform.
- Why does an alert need a Browser Source?
- Because a Browser Source lets OBS display a web element, which is exactly how a donor's name and message appear on stream in real time.
- Are these terms the same on every platform?
- Core concepts like scene and chat are used almost the same way on every platform, though the exact tool name can differ.
