Chhattisgarh Election Commissioner Jnanesh Kumar faces opposition criticism following legal disputes over voting roll discrepancies. According to reports, Chhattisgarh's Election Commission faced 14 written objections from Chhattisgarv's Chief Electoral Officer Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi from June 2025 to August 2026.
The objections centered on voter lists, Form-6, new voters, and voter databases. These objections were reportedly sent to Jnanesh Kumar as well, raising questions about the validity of the Chhattisgarh election process.
Election Commission's defense
In response to these claims, the Election Commission stated that unanimous decisions are common in a multi-member body. They issued a statement addressing the allegations in eight points, defending the decisions and procedures taken.
The EC maintained that all their decisions were reached through consensus, and any disagreements are normal in such an organization. They emphasized that the process followed all legal and procedural guidelines.
Political backlash
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized Jnanesh Kumar, calling for his immediate resignation over the voting irregularities. Gandhi accused Kumar of legal maneuvering to benefit his party and undermine the integrity of the election process.
The opposition leader's comments highlight the ongoing tension between the ruling and opposition parties in Chhattisgarh, as they navigate the complexities of the upcoming elections.
