Game Status

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers due to a superficial blood clot in his calf, the team announced Thursday.

Hurts was listed as a full participant in Friday's practice before the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a calf injury. He had no injury designation for Sunday's game in London.

Injury Details

On Thursday, October 8th, Jalen Hurts visited the training room after practice, requesting treatment for his calf. He informed the medical staff that he had been cleated during the Rams game on October 4th. An ultrasound was performed on Saturday following the team's flight to London and walkthrough, revealing a superficial blood clot.

Doctors recommended a follow-up ultrasound within 72 hours of the game and the return flight to Philadelphia. On Wednesday night, a follow-up ultrasound revealed movement in the small blood clot.

Backup Plans

Tanner McKee is expected to start in place of Hurts against the Panthers. McKee has started two games, in Week 18 the last two years, when the Eagles had already clinched their playoff seeds and decided to rest Hurts and their other top players.

The only other quarterback on the roster is Cole Payton, a fifth-round rookie who has a lot of talent but is not viewed as ready to lead an NFL team right away.
