Comeback in Osnabrueck

Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich came from a goal down to beat second division side Osnabrueck 4-1 in the first round of the German Cup on Wednesday, according to Yahoo Sports.

The hosts led after five minutes through Robin Meissner, who scored with a dipping shot from outside the penalty area. Bayern levelled when Kane hammered home a rebound.

Tom Bischof added a second goal in similar fashion six minutes later. Michael Olise scored on 73 minutes, and Kane converted a penalty with four minutes remaining.

Reaction from the Players

Kane, who was named Player of the Match, said the win was hard-earned. "It's never easy at an away ground with a very good atmosphere. They started the game with an amazing goal, and we had to stay calm," he said.

In the fuller version of his comments reported by OneFootball, Kane added that Bayern could have scored more. "We have great attacking players who can hurt teams," he said.

Bischof said Bayern had the game under control. "I'm always happy to start and get minutes with the boys," he told reporters, adding that he was pleased with his goal.

Kane's Record and Bayern's Cup History

Yahoo Sports reports that Kane, the England captain, now has 148 goals in 150 games in all competitions for Bayern Munich. He joined the German club from Tottenham Hotspur, his boyhood side in London, in 2023.

Bayern have won the German Cup, known as the DFB-Pokal, 21 times and are the current holders. The last time they were eliminated in the first round was in 1994.

Ahead of the tie, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany confirmed that goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, 23, would replace Manuel Neuer for the match. Urbig made 20 appearances last season, and Kompany said the club had put "an incredible amount of trust" in him, pointing to his appearance in the cup final.

What Comes Next

Bayern move into the second round of the competition. The sources do not say when that round will be played or who the opponent will be.

OneFootball reports that Bayern next travel to newly promoted Schalke on Saturday evening in the Bundesliga, Germany's top division.

Elsewhere in the first round, Borussia Dortmund beat fifth-division amateur side HEBC 5-0 in Hamburg on Tuesday.
