How to stream on a Mac with OBS, step by step

July 10, 2026

Streaming on a Mac with streaming software

Knowing how to stream on a Mac comes down to a few macOS permissions and a correct OBS setup, and after that it is as smooth as on any other computer. This guide covers what you need, how to set up OBS, and how to connect a donation to your stream. Donator is Georgia's first and best streaming donation platform, in official partnership with TBC and Bank of Georgia.

What you need on a Mac

You need a Mac with a recent macOS, the Mac version of OBS Studio, a stable internet connection, and an account on your platform of choice, for example Twitch or YouTube. A modern Apple Silicon Mac handles broadcasting especially well.

The microphone and camera can be built in, though an external microphone improves sound quality. Extra equipment is not required to start.

Installing and setting up OBS on macOS

Download OBS Studio from the official site and install it like any Mac app. On first launch OBS offers an auto configuration wizard for your starting settings.

Enter your platform stream key or log in directly, then add a scene with your camera and screen. These are the same steps as on Windows.

macOS permissions and gotchas

macOS requires a separate permission for screen recording. Open System Settings, Privacy and Security, and enable Screen Recording for OBS, otherwise your screen capture stays black.

Also enable Microphone and Camera permissions for OBS. After this step a Mac is just as complete a streaming machine as any computer.

Adding your Donator alert as a Browser Source

The Donator alert is a web layer, so it works the same way on a Mac. Add a new Browser Source in OBS and paste the alert link, and it appears on stream instantly.

The donation is paid to a Georgian bank, TBC or Bank of Georgia, in GEL, while a small platform fee keeps the service developing. Because Donator runs in the browser, the platform works equally well on Mac and Windows, and viewers pay with any card.
