Arsenal Handed Alvarez Boost as Atletico Eye Replacement
Atletico Madrid have opened loan talks for Juventus striker Jonathan David as Julian Alvarez's future at the Spanish club stays unresolved.

Atletico's Move for Jonathan David
Atletico Madrid have made a formal offer to sign Juventus striker Jonathan David on loan with an option to buy, according to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano as cited by The Standard.
The two clubs are in talks. The Canadian forward is said to be open to the move, though Juventus want to bring in a replacement before letting him go.
David joined Juventus from French club Lille last summer. He scored six times in 36 appearances in Serie A, Italy's top division.
Julian Alvarez's Stalled Exit
The Standard reports that the approach for David suggests Atletico are preparing either for Julian Alvarez to leave or for the Argentina forward to play a reduced role this season.
Alvarez has spent much of the summer trying to force a move away from Atletico, with Barcelona understood to be his preferred destination. Those efforts have not worked so far.
According to The Standard, he failed to report for training several times after publicly asking to leave in an interview at the World Cup, citing illness. He has since returned to training but was left out of the matchday squad for Atletico's trip to face Sevilla on Saturday.
The Arsenal Question
Arsenal, of the Premier League, have emerged as the most likely destination for the 26 year old, The Standard says, despite a belief that the player is reluctant to return to English football.
Whether Arsenal will actually make a bid remains to be seen. The Standard notes that time is short, with the transfer window due to close on Tuesday night.
BBC Sport's football gossip column, citing Teamtalk, reports that Arsenal are still interested in Alvarez and are actively working to make a potential move to London easier for the player and his entourage. The sources do not say what an offer would be worth, and no fee has been reported.
