Hellebuyck Trades to Devils for Family Reasons
Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck trades to New Jersey Devils after citing family challenges.
Trade Details
Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, a three-time Vezina Trophy winner, was traded from the Winnipeg Jets to the New Jersey Devils on October 23, 2023. The trade involved forwards Dawson Mercer, Alexander Command, and Nick Bjugstad, alongside goaltender Nico Daws, and draft picks.
Hellebuyck, who had previously requested a trade, was suspended by the Jets for failing to report to training camp, following his trade request.
Hellebuyck's Statement
In a letter posted on Instagram, Hellebuyck explained that his decision to request a trade was due to 'very challenging circumstances' involving his family. He acknowledged that this was a difficult decision and expressed gratitude to the Jets organization and fans.
Hellebuyck stated, 'After a lot of thought and discussion, we ultimately felt that making a change was the best thing for our family. We’ve chosen to keep those personal circumstances private, and I hope people can respect that.'
