Trade Discussions

The Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly in exploratory trade discussions to send Dalton Knecht to Milwaukee, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line and Bleacher Report.

The Lakers are looking to trim their roster from 16 guaranteed contracts to 15 ahead of the regular season. Jericho Sims of the Milwaukee Bucks is also reportedly being considered as a potential trade target for the Lakers.

Dalton Knecht's Performance

Dalton Knecht, selected 17th overall in 2024, struggled in his second NBA season after showing promise in his rookie year. He started a handful of games and even recorded a 37-point outburst against the Utah Jazz.

Knecht’s primary appeal was his shooting, but he has struggled to convert 36.8% of his three-point attempts in the NBA. His lack of strength and lateral mobility make him a poor defender, and he has not proven to be an effective passer or scorer off the dribble.

Roster Situation

The Lakers are one of three NBA teams currently carrying more than 15 players on fully guaranteed contracts, along with the Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies.

Veteran swingman Caris LeVert is also a possible release candidate for the Bucks, given his expiring contract and recent struggles in preseason games.
