Preparations for ODI Tri-Series

Pakistan's 16-member squad has commenced training at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium ahead of the upcoming one-day international (ODI) tri-nation series featuring England and Sri Lanka. The team will face Sri Lanka on October 18, followed by matches against England on October 20, and conclude with a match against Sri Lanka again on October 27. The matches will be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore.

Captain Shaheen Afridi, under the guidance of head coach Mike Hesson and a coaching staff including batting coach Mike Smith, bowling coach Shaun Tait, and fielding coach Mansoor Amjad, led the squad in a three-hour practice session focused on skills and match preparation.

Batting Coach Emphasizes Adaptability

Michael Smith, Pakistan's batting coach, highlighted the importance of adaptability and problem-solving for the team's future performances. Smith, a former South African first-class cricketer, stressed the need for the team to develop greater depth in batting. He emphasized that the upcoming ODI tri-series will provide an opportunity to assess batting options and prepare for varying playing conditions.

Smith identified Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, and Salman Ali Agha as experienced options in the squad, while younger batsmen and all-rounders like Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, and Arafat Minhas could strengthen the lower order. He also noted the importance of having sufficient depth across all batting positions, rather than relying on a small group of established players.
