Inquest Conclusions

An inquest into the deaths of Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, has concluded that the three sisters from London took their own lives by drowning off Brighton beach.

The sisters were found dead in the sea on 13 May 2026. They could not swim and faced adverse sea conditions. Senior coroner Penelope Schofield stated that the reasons for their actions may never be known.

Background and Circumstances

The women were living very secluded lives after the death of their mother, who had drowned in 2010. Their father, Joseph Jacobsen, expressed his deep sorrow at losing all three of his daughters.

On 11 May, the sisters visited their mother's former home in Birmingham, and the next day, they traveled to Brighton beach, where they were last seen alive at 02:42 on 13 May.

The coroner noted that Christina had been experiencing anxiety and depression since her mother's death, but no such issues were recorded for Rebecca. Jane was not registered with a doctor.

Postmortem tests revealed no evidence of drugs or alcohol, and no signs of violence. The police searched Christina's laptop and found 227 references to water and 179 references to suicide.
