Collapse in the Final Over
Zimbabwe beat Namibia by five runs at Windhoek on 31 August after Namibia lost their last four wickets inside the final over of a chase they had almost completed.
Namibia were 76 for 6 in the 12th over, needing 196 to win. Zane Green and Alexander Busing-Volschenk then added 110 in 49 balls for the seventh wicket and took the score to 186 with four balls remaining. Namibia were all out for 190.
Green was run out by Sikandar Raza off the second ball of the final over for 54 from 26. Two balls later Busing-Volschenk was caught by wicketkeeper Tadiwanashe Marumani for 56 from 29. Bernard Scholtz was run out by Brad Evans without facing a ball, and Jack Brassell was bowled by Evans off the last delivery.
Two Recoveries, One Result
Zimbabwe's innings followed a similar shape. They were 101 for 6 in the 12th over, having lost Brian Bennett, Dion Myers, Sikandar Raza and Ben Curran while adding 12 runs.
Ryan Burl and Evans put on 94 without being separated off 48 balls to finish on 195 for 6. Burl made 57 not out from 32 balls with seven fours, and Evans 37 not out from 24.
Green hit seven fours and two sixes in his innings; Busing-Volschenk hit four sixes, according to SportsAdda.
Penalty, Awards and the Table
Zimbabwe were docked for a slow over rate and had to bowl the 20th over with an additional fielder inside the circle. Raza gave the over to Evans, who had earlier dismissed Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus in the fifth over. Sixteen were needed; Evans conceded a no ball, then two off the first legal delivery, and Namibia lost four wickets while adding four runs.
Evans finished with 3 for 41 and took the player of the match award and Cricinfo's MVP rating. Bennett was the most economical Zimbabwe bowler with 2 for 8 from his single over. Erasmus took 3 for 46 and was out for 12.
The tri-nation series had produced three matches and three different winners. Namibia beat South Africa by 18 runs on 28 August, South Africa beat Zimbabwe by seven wickets on 29 August, and Zimbabwe then beat Namibia. All three sides were on two points, separated by net run rate: South Africa on plus 0.969, Namibia on plus 0.325, Zimbabwe on minus 1.505.
Next Meeting
The two sides meet again in the fifth match of the tri-nation series at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek on Thursday, Sportstar reports.
Sportstar says the match starts at 5:30 PM Indian Standard Time and will be streamed on the FanCode app and website.
