Zimbabwe Face Namibia in Windhoek After Heavy Defeat

Namibia play Zimbabwe in the third match of the Namibia Tri-Nation series, a three team Twenty20 International tournament that also features South Africa. Sportstar reports the game takes place at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek on Monday.

According to Sportstar, the match starts at 5:30 PM Indian Standard Time and is streamed on the FanCode app and website. The publication does not list broadcast arrangements for other territories.

Namibia go in having beaten South Africa by 18 runs in the opening game on Friday. Zimbabwe lost to the same opponent by seven wickets a day later, leaving Namibia and South Africa on two points each and Zimbabwe winless from their only match.

Zimbabwe's Collapse Against South Africa

Zimbabwe were bowled out for a total that South Africa chased down inside 14 overs. The News reports Zimbabwe squandered a strong start, falling from 76 for 1 after 10 overs to 144 for 8, scoring only 68 runs while losing seven wickets in the second half of the innings.

The same report elsewhere describes Zimbabwe as 74 for 1 after nine overs, adding just 20 runs in the next 6.1 overs for the loss of four wickets. The two figures in the account do not match exactly.

Ben Curran took the lead role with the bat, making 24 off 11 balls, including 14 runs off three Duan Jansen deliveries. He was caught by a leaping Tony de Zorzi trying to clear mid on, with his opening partner Brian Bennett on 20 off 19.

Brevis and the Chase

South Africa's win was built on Dewald Brevis, who made 75 not out off 32 balls with 13 boundaries, among them six sixes. It was his second successive score of 75, after 75 off 50 in the losing effort against Namibia.

Teammate Prenelan Subrayen, who took two wickets, told reporters that Brevis had shown frustration at not finishing the Namibia game and put it right the next day. "Watching him bat is quite a privilege," he said, as quoted by the International Cricket Council.

Zimbabwe's Tadiwanashe Marumani said Brevis' intent from the first ball released pressure and cut the required scoring rate to less than a run a ball. The News notes the absence of fast bowler Richard Ngarava told on Zimbabwe's attack, with Graeme Cremer, back in the side for the first time since the T20 World Cup, conceding 32 runs in two overs.

Eathan Bosch took 1 for 20 and Duan Jansen 3 for 45 for South Africa, whose captain for the match was Bjorn Fortuin. How Zimbabwe will change their side for Monday is not yet known.
