About this job
About Enode The traditional grid was designed for steady, centralized power supply. Now, it must handle variable sources like large-scale solar and wind, along with dynamic demands from electric vehicles (EVs), heat pumps, and home storage systems. The key to unlocking this potential is advanced software that can integrate and manage these diverse elements at scale. Enode offers the foundational software that makes this integration possible. Our Connect API serves as a unified interface for energy companies, connecting them to over 1000 devices from 80 different brands. Our optimization tools provide the essential components for local device management, such as intelligent charging for EVs. The Flex product transforms these connected devices into a flexible, controllable asset for energy companies. We collaborate with manufacturers across the energy hardware landscape, from EV makers to companies producing heat pumps and solar inverters. Our clients are energy retailers, utilities, and traders who are developing the next wave of energy services. We are supported by prominent investors like Y Combinator, Lowercarbon Capital, and Creandum. The choices we make now will significantly influence the future of the energy system. We seek individuals who are proactive, quick to act, and deeply committed to the role technology can play in the energy transition.
What We Are Seeking We are seeking a Backend Engineer to enhance the reliability, observability, and efficiency of Enode's EV platform. As a Mid-Level Backend Engineer on the Platform Connect team, you will concentrate on improving the reliability, observability, and scalability of Enode's connectivity layer. This involves managing the API that consolidates integrations with EV chargers, vehicles, and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) platforms into a cohesive and reliable solution for our customers. This role is not focused on infrastructure or DevOps. The Platform Connect team is responsible for the product-level platform that drives connectivity at Enode, ensuring consistent, high-quality integrations between our users and energy devices. Your responsibilities will encompass both new integrations and platform enhancements: fixing issues, creating automations, enhancing monitoring and alerting, and contributing to the robustness of our API as we scale to accommodate more OEMs and partners. Our technical infrastructure is based on a TypeScript-driven codebase with React, Node, AWS, Docker, and PostgreSQL, structured via CDK/CloudFormation. In this role, you will:
- Develop and maintain API integrations with OEMs and other energy partners, ensuring they are dependable, efficient, and well-tested. - Improve the connectivity platform by reducing incidents, enhancing observability, and solidifying the foundations that make our API resilient. - Create automations and internal tools to streamline integration monitoring, triage, and testing. - Participate in defining service level agreements (SLAs), monitoring, and alerting practices that enhance reliability and reduce manual effort. - Contribute to discussions on platform priorities and align them with product needs, ensuring a balance between stability and delivery. - Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment by sharing knowledge, refining best practices, and working closely with engineers across Enode.
This position is ideal for you if: You see artificial intelligence (AI) as a strategic tool for engineering work, not just a means to increase productivity. AI is an integral part of our engineering approach at Enode, and we expect you to be comfortable using it daily, understanding its strengths and limitations, and considering how it can improve your work. If you're not there yet, you're genuinely motivated to get there. Additionally:
- You have experience crafting maintainable, testable backend code, ideally in an environment with a high volume of API or integration work. - You are enthusiastic about platform engineering in a product-centric sense. Building the connectivity layer that powers integrations, rather than managing infrastructure or CI/CD pipelines. - You enjoy both creating new integrations and making existing systems more reliable and observable. - You are methodical in debugging issues and improving the tools and processes that prevent them from recurring. - You are proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript (or eager to learn TypeScript) and comfortable working in a distributed systems environment. - You communicate clearly, collaborate proactively, and contribute positively to team discussions. - You are curious, respectful, and growth-oriented, valuing teamwork, ownership, and continuous improvement.
What We Offer:
- The chance to join and impact a climate-tech startup with global ambitions as it scales. - A mission-driven, fun, and caring workplace with high drive and ambition. - Competitive compensation, including a very attractive employee option program. - Access to top-tier AI tools, reflecting the potential of small teams to achieve big things. - A remote-first option in Europe, with the option to work from an office in Oslo or using a co-working pass. - Three annual off-sites to connect with the team in exciting and fun locations. - A flexible, human-first culture. - A stipend for setting up your home office.
A few things to note:
- Enode is an equal opportunities employer. Don’t hesitate to apply if you are excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description. We are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you’re eager to contribute, we encourage you to apply.
