About this job

Remote AI Automation Consultant (Contract/Freelance) 3rd Wave | Remote | Project-based

About the Role 3rd Wave is a UK-based consultancy specializing in AI automation for small and medium businesses (SMBs). Our goal is to streamline their workflows by connecting existing systems, ensuring data flows seamlessly without manual intervention.

We are assembling a network of remote consultants to support our expanding client projects. Work is project-based, allowing you to take on assignments that align with your skills and availability rather than committing to a long-term contract.

Responsibilities The nature of each project varies, but the core tasks remain consistent. You will integrate business systems (such as CRMs, job boards, document management tools, spreadsheets, and communication platforms) through APIs and browser automation. You will design orchestrated workflows and incorporate AI where it offers genuine value, ensuring a clear audit trail and the ability for a human to maintain control.

Common Tasks Include:

- Developing automated workflows that connect multiple business systems end-to-end. - Designing data pipelines that source external data (via APIs, scrapers, or browser automation) and deliver it in a clean, structured format. - Integrating AI into workflows for tasks such as data extraction, classification, drafting, and summarization, with built-in human review. - Creating comprehensive documentation to facilitate the operation and maintenance of the systems you develop for non-technical clients.

Requirements We prioritize your problem-solving approach over your specific toolset. Our work revolves around systems integration and automation, so we seek individuals passionate about seamlessly linking disparate tools and eliminating manual processes.

Ideal candidates will have:

- Proficient experience with workflow automation platforms (such as n8n, Make, or Zapier) - n8n is highly preferred. - Strong experience working with REST APIs, webhooks, and authentication processes. - Knowledge of no-code/low-code data platforms like Airtable or Clay. - Understanding of how to integrate AI into workflows, including prompting, structured output extraction, and recognizing when human oversight is necessary. - Ability to write clear, concise documentation. - Comfort with browser automation tools (e.g., Apify or Airtop) for systems that lack a clean API. - Diagnostic skills to identify and resolve the root causes of issues in complex systems.

While not every requirement needs to be met, we value depth in a few areas over a superficial understanding of many.

How We Work - Projects are clearly defined in a detailed Statement of Work before commencing, ensuring transparency regarding deliverables, timeline, and assumptions. - Project durations range from 2 to 6 weeks, with some clients having longer, multi-phase programs. - Work is conducted remotely and asynchronously, with necessary discovery workshops and check-ins. - You will collaborate directly with the client’s team during discovery and testing phases, not just working in isolation.

To Apply Please share a project you are proud of, the tools you used, and the challenges you faced.
