Debate Highlights

NDP Leader David Eby and Conservative Leader Lorne Doerkson faced off in the only televised debate before the Oct. 24 election. Green Leader Emily Lowan also participated.

Eby defended the NDP government's fiscal record, blaming the previous BC Liberal government for a $13.8 billion deficit. Doerkson criticized Eby for not improving the province's state since 2017.

Eby proposed taxing the wealthiest 3.88 percent to fund health care, while Doerkson accused the NDP of attacking residents through taxation. Doerkson promised to grow the economy to balance the budget.

Health Care and Affordability

Both Eby and Doerkson discussed health care, with Eby promising to reduce wait times and increase funding, and Doerkson pledging to fully fund health care without cutting front-line services.

Doerkson accused Eby of wanting to tax more than just the ultra-rich, while Eby argued that his party is transparent about funding its promises.
