Imran Khan Notified by Mumbai Police Over Non-Resident Status
Mumbai police have issued a notice to Imran Khan, who faces accusations of participating in a protest despite not being a citizen.

Imran Khan Receives Notice from Mumbai Police
Mumbai Police has issued a notice to Imran Khan after accusing him of participating in a protest in August despite not being a resident of India.
Khan was part of the protest on August 14 at the Anti-Corruption Movement Maidan in Mumbai, where he supported the demand for the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
The police had detained him and filed a First Information Report (FIR) against over 400 people involved in the protest, citing relevant provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.
Khan's Citizenship Status and Arguments
Khan, an American citizen born in Madison, Wisconsin, on January 13, 1983, holds an OCI card but not Indian citizenship. He argues that he came to the city as a resident, not a citizen, to observe the restrictions on people's comings and goings and the suppression of their voices.
Kiran Somaiya, a leader of the Indian National Congress and a former MP, has lodged a complaint with the police and demanded a fair investigation and strict action in this case. She claims that OCI card holders or any non-citizens cannot participate in domestic political activities and protests.
Status and Next Steps
Khan faces a deadline of October 28 to leave the country, but his legal position remains uncertain.
The police have given him 28 days to leave the country, highlighting the complex legal issues surrounding his participation in the protest.
