Scheffler Wins Tour Championship and $10 Million Prize

Scottie Scheffler won the PGA Tour's Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta on Sunday, closing with a 4-under 66 for a total of 16-under 264.

He finished three strokes clear of Viktor Hovland, who had led after 54 holes. Ryan Gerard was alone in third, another stroke back.

The victory made Scheffler the 20th FedExCup champion. The FedExCup is the PGA Tour's season-long points competition, and the Tour Championship is its final event.

The $40 Million Purse

PGA Tour reports that the $40 million purse for the finale is the richest on the circuit. Scheffler collected $10 million in official earnings for the win.

Hovland took $5 million for second place. CBS Sports notes that is a bigger cheque than the winners of signature events receive, and more than the $3.6 million Hovland earned for winning the Travelers Championship earlier in the year.

Gerard banked just over $3.7 million, which CBS Sports describes as the biggest payout of his career. Seven players tied for fourth at $3.2 million each: Chris Gotterup, Alex Fitzpatrick, Jacob Bridgeman, Min Woo Lee, Russell Henley, Rory McIlroy and Ludvig Aberg.

Payouts fell steadily down the board. Cameron Young, Tommy Fleetwood and Adam Scott earned $695,000 apiece in 11th, while Gary Woodland collected $360,000 in 29th, the smallest cheque among the players who completed 72 holes.

Career Earnings and Player of the Year

CBS Sports reports that the win moved Scheffler to No. 1 on the PGA Tour's all-time money list, passing Tiger Woods, with more than $130 million in career earnings. He made $13.6 million in on-course earnings across the three-week playoff run, winning the St. Jude Championship as well as the finale.

It was Scheffler's third win of the season and the 22nd Tour title of his career. He had won the Tour Championship once before, in 2024, and now joins Rory McIlroy, with three, and Woods, with two, as multiple FedExCup winners.

PGA Tour notes that Scheffler is the four-time reigning Player of the Year and suggests the result probably secures a fifth Jack Nicklaus Award. The winner is not announced until the end of the year, so that remains unconfirmed.
