Scheffler Wins TOUR Championship and $10 Million Prize
Scottie Scheffler beat Viktor Hovland by three strokes at East Lake to claim his second FedExCup title and the top share of a $40 million purse.

Scottie Scheffler shot a 4-under 66 in the final round of the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta to finish at 16-under 264 and win by three strokes, PGATOUR.com reported. Viktor Hovland, who led after 54 holes, was second. Ryan Gerard finished alone in third, one shot further back.
Golf.com described the closing stretch in detail. Hovland began Sunday one shot clear of Gerard and three ahead of Scheffler, Adam Scott and Ludvig Aberg. Scheffler hit his tee shot to six inches at the par-3 second, birdied the fourth to pull level, then moved ahead for good with birdies at the 13th and 16th before Hovland bogeyed the 17th.
The win makes Scheffler the 20th FedExCup champion. The FedExCup is the PGA TOUR's season-long points race, and the TOUR Championship is its final event.
The $40 Million Purse
The TOUR Championship carries a $40 million purse, which PGATOUR.com says is the richest on the PGA TOUR. Scheffler collected $10 million in official earnings for the win.
CBS Sports published the full payout scale. Hovland took $5 million for second and Gerard $3,705,000 for third. Seven players tied for fourth: Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Aberg, Jacob Bridgeman, Alex Fitzpatrick, Min Woo Lee, Chris Gotterup and Russell Henley.
The two outlets differ on what those seven were paid. CBS Sports lists fourth place at $3,200,000, while Golf.com lists each of the seven at $1,707,142. The sources do not explain the discrepancy. Last place among the 29 players who completed 72 holes was worth $360,000, going to Gary Woodland.
Career Earnings and Season Context
With the win, Scheffler passed Tiger Woods as the PGA Tour's all-time leading money winner, according to Golf.com, which puts Scheffler at $130,390,661 and Woods at $120,999,166.
CBS Sports reported that Scheffler earned $13.6 million in on-course money across the playoffs after winning the St. Jude Championship and the TOUR Championship in a three-week span. Golf.com added that he had already banked $23 million in FedEx Cup bonus money for topping the standings after the BMW Championship.
PGATOUR.com noted Scheffler won no major championship or THE PLAYERS Championship this season but was runner-up five times, third twice and fourth three times. He joins McIlroy, with three, and Woods, with two, as multiple FedExCup winners.
