Descripción de la empresa

A Little Bit About Us: Saphetor ’s mission is to enable anyone to find, share and use the most comprehensive human genome data - and to collaborate to improve health and lives around the world. To do this we have built the VarSome suite of bioinformatic tools, the world’s leading resource for analysis and interpretation of human genome variant data, with more than 6 000 citations in scientific papers, and over 60 000 registered professional users. Our customers work around the globe across academic, clinical, and industry laboratories analysing NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) data for research and diagnostic purposes. Saphetor is a global precision medicine company with offices and distributed teams across Greece, Spain, the UK, Switzerland, France, the MENA region, South America, and other countries, employing a diverse global workforce. The Opportunity We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our engineering organization. Standing at the intersection of infrastructure and software delivery, you will support our engineering teams through the full lifecycle of our systems, from designing and provisioning cloud and on-premises infrastructure to deploying, monitoring, and continuously improving the applications that run on it. You will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of the platforms that power VarSome. We thrive in a high-pressure, high-performance environment where clinical precision and rapid growth meet. While our pace is fast, it is always directed by rigorous organization and clear processes, ensuring that our commitment to quality is never compromised by our drive for speed. Role Responsibilities:

* Infrastructure Delivery: Design, build, and maintain our cloud and on-premises infrastructure using IaC with Terraform and Configuration Management with Ansible; work closely with software engineers to design, deploy, and manage applications running on Linux servers across GCP, OCI, and ON-PREM environments.

* Network Architecture: Design, implement, and manage secure and scalable network architectures, including VPCs, subnets, firewall rules, and load balancing in our cloud environments.

* Deployment & Reliability Support: Develop and maintain our CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Workflows or Cloud Build for seamless application delivery, managing code repositories and collaboration through GitHub; proactively troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement remediation fixes to ensure business continuity with minimum downtime.

* Operational Optimization & Support: Design, implement, and manage scalable logging, monitoring, and alerting systems; utilize Python and Bash scripting to automate operational tasks and improve efficiency; configure and manage our API ecosystem using APISIX Gateway, and provide on-call support according to scheduled rotation.

* Technical Advocacy: Contribute to project planning, including task estimation and the creation of comprehensive technical documentation; continuously investigate and suggest improvements to enhance system performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.

* Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with peers and architects to ensure compliance with company standards and security best practices.

The Ideal Candidate (Profile) The ideal candidate combines strong infrastructure and automation expertise and a passion for reliability engineering with a proactive mindset. You should be able to translate complex technical requirements into robust, scalable solutions, while possessing the communication skills necessary to engage both software engineers and cross-functional stakeholders. What you will bring:

* Education: A University degree in Computer Science or a related field.

* Expertise: 6+ years of work experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role, including a minimum of 4 years working with UNIX/Linux systems, configuration, troubleshooting, and scripting with Python and/or Bash.

* Technical Knowledge: A solid grasp of Terraform, Ansible, Docker containerization, the HashiCorp stack (Vault, Packer), Git/GitHub, and networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S) and cloud networking concepts (VPCs, firewalls, load balancers); hands on experience with cloud providers, ideally GCP and OCI.

* Communication: The ability to collaborate effectively with software engineers, architects, and cross-functional stakeholders in Agile environments using Jira and Confluence.

* Languages: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is a must.

Strongly Valued

* Container Orchestration: Production experience with Kubernetes.

* Platform Experience: Previous background managing API gateways such as APISIX, and building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Workflows or Cloud Build.

* Monitoring Knowledge: Familiarity with logging and monitoring tools such as Elasticsearch, Kibana, Grafana, or cloud-native solutions.

* Certifications: GCP or OCI certifications are nice to have.

* Global Mindset: Proven experience in multicultural environments and/or supporting internationally distributed engineering teams in a scale-up setting.

Mindset & Key Skills

* Technical Rigor: A curious, detail-oriented professional who maintains high engineering standards while managing complex infrastructure.

* Continuous Improvement Mindset: A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and learning new technologies, balancing system reliability with pragmatic delivery decisions and translating infrastructure improvements into team and business benefits.

* Self-Organization: A structured thinker with strong prioritization and project management skills, comfortable in a fast-paced environment.

* Agile Collaboration: Comfortable working within Agile frameworks, including Scrumban, as part of a regionally distributed team.

While our foundation is in Athens, our talent pool is spread across Europe, with a strong culture of remote collaboration. Our team is highly experienced in distributed Agile workflows and communicates exclusively in fluent English. Your career journey with us includes, among others:

* A position in a fascinating healthcare growth domain, at the cutting edge of technology and research

* A competitive compensation package tailored to your unique expertise and professional background.

* A remote-first work environment that promotes a healthy work-life balance, giving you the autonomy to thrive from anywhere.

* An annual training budget and endless opportunities to learn, while helping transfer new technologies from academia to clinical practice worldwide.
