About this job
Canonical builds open source software and operating systems for enterprise and technology markets worldwide. Ubuntu, our platform, runs behind major enterprise pushes into public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation and IoT. Customers span top public cloud and silicon providers plus sector leaders. We pioneered distributed collaboration: 1200+ colleagues across 75+ countries, almost no office-based roles. Teams gather in person two to four times a year in interesting places worldwide to line up strategy and execution.
Founder-led. Profitable. Growing.
We are creating a new generation of Ubuntu-based container images to make open-source application deployment simpler everywhere. They will be free to use, carry long-term security commitments, and be engineered for performance, security and usability. Like Ubuntu, development happens in the open and community participation is welcome.
Your job: build and maintain a portfolio of container images that keeps expanding, coordinating with teams inside and outside Canonical so quality stays high and the Ubuntu user experience feels seamless. You will also be deeply involved in building and running the CI/CD automation around those images, which calls for real depth in container-based DevOps.
You will contribute to fast-moving products such as Rocks ( OCI images ), giving you a hand in shaping and consolidating a team that is still growing. Expect exposure to many container technologies and open source projects, where your input and contributions matter for driving container adoption broadly. Seniority for engineers here is set by your software development background and your capacity to lead junior colleagues.
Build a rewarding, meaningful career alongside some of the sharpest people in technology at Canonical. A strong fit for experienced software engineers who want to leave a mark and who care about shaping a top-quality open source product, with the community and for it.
