About this job
Who we are
Dune exists to open up crypto data to everyone. Our multi-chain analytics platform is collaborative by design, and thousands of developers, analysts and investors rely on it to make sense of on-chain activity and where finance is heading. Around 60 of us work together across European and eastern US timezones. We care about the mission and about keeping the product open and powerful, so that individuals and communities can research ecosystems like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and many others in depth.
Our investors are among the best anywhere. We announced our Series B in February 2022, led by Coatue and Union Square Ventures, a milestone that let us go further on the mission. The money goes into teaching, rewarding and equipping a new wave of onchain analysts, who we call Wizards.
If a job with enormous impact appeals to you, join our team of Galaxy brains.

Values and working at Dune
The role
The Data Foundation team is responsible for how blockchain data arrives at Dune, how we represent it, and how we serve it to the outside world. Expect to think about large distributed data systems, to spot familiar scaling patterns and the traps that come with a software lifecycle. A good fit for anyone who finds those subjects genuinely interesting.
When a product requirement is vague, you are the engineer we bring it to. You return with a design, an order of work, and tasks the rest of the team can pick up, and you build the hardest pieces yourself.
What you will do
* Convert product requirements into technical ones: model the domain, set out interfaces and workflows, and work through the trade-offs
* Split big problems into pieces other engineers can own, ordered so that something useful ships early
* Lead architectural calls that matter across the data platform, and own components from first design to production
* Work across our stack, mostly Go, Kotlin, Rust and Python where each suits, picking the right tool over the familiar one
* Build for correctness and speed at real volume: large-scale ingestion, distributed processing and data lake storage
* Lift the standard of design reviews, testing and the way work gets broken down
* Set an example for other engineers in a fully distributed team
You may suit this role if
* You are a strong generalist with genuine computer science fundamentals, and you apply them to pick up unfamiliar technologies and problem spaces quickly
* You think from first principles: assumptions get stated out loud, you work out which constraints and invariants matter, and you derive the answer instead of grabbing a pattern you already know.
* Computer science fundamentals are practical tools in your hands. You have designed and shipped distributed data systems and made their contracts, state transitions, invariants and failure modes explicit. Their fault models and scaling weaknesses are familiar to you
* Ambiguity does not bother you: you speak to product, to customers and to the team, then settle on a scope and argue for it
* AI tools have genuinely changed the way you work, you know where they break down, and ai-slop annoys you
* Your writing is clear and you bring out the best in a distributed team
Nice to have
* Work with data lakes and formats like Parquet, Iceberg or Deltalog
* Time at a company whose product is the data itself
Perks and benefits
* Strong salary plus equity. Both sit in the top 25% of companies in this space
* Our employee equity scheme has world-class employee-friendly terms, with a strike price discounted by roughly 90% and ten years to exercise
* 5 weeks PTO plus local public holidays, which you can swap around as you prefer
* Remote-first throughout, in a distributed team with flexible hours. Your day is yours to arrange
* No meeting overload. We mix async and sync work sensibly, so your attention goes to work that counts instead of endless calls
* Health matters, so private medical insurance plus dental and vision come as standard
* Paid parental leave, because this milestone deserves marking, along with time to settle into your new life and bond with your baby. Primary caregivers get 16 weeks fully paid, secondary caregivers 6 weeks. After that, a 2-week part-time return at full pay eases you into your new and rather busier routine
* Quarterly offsites in interesting places, as a company or a team, for connecting, working side by side and enjoying ourselves. Tuscany, Berlin, Austria and Athens so far
* Every person also gets a yearly travel allowance to spend a few days co-working with a colleague or a group
* An allowance for your home setup, so you stay comfortable, content and productive. Prefer a local co-working space? We will cover your desk
* Colleagues who are some of the finest people you will ever meet
* Dune swag, naturally
We want a workplace that is diverse, inclusive and real, so apply even if this role excites you but your background does not tick every single qualification listed. You could be the person we want for this job or another one.
