Job Purpose
Med-Metrix hires a Licensed Appeal Writer to look at insurance claims that our hospital clients had denied for payment. Partnered with nurses and other colleagues, this person writes letters arguing the claim should be paid.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Look over insurance claims that were denied * Go through patient medical records * Build an approach for getting denials overturned * Write the appeals * Keep the appeal pipeline tracked and ordered against deadlines set internally, by clients, and by insurers * Take on further tasks when assigned * Handle, safeguard and release patients' protected health information (PHI) strictly under Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules * Know and follow Information Security and HIPAA policy and procedure at all times * Look at no more PHI than the assigned work requires
Qualifications
* A 4-year degree, or equal experience on the job * An active license as a Physician's Assistant (PA), Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT), or comparable professional license * Ability to order your own workload around firm deadlines * Comfort with technology and quick pickup of unfamiliar software * Strong reading comprehension, plus skill in interpreting medical information and terminology * Working command of Microsoft Office Suite * Good people skills and clear communication with every level of the organization * Creative problem-solving, sound judgment, and decisions grounded in accurate, current analysis * Honesty, reliability, urgency, and a focus on results * Strong writing and speaking required * A warm, courteous manner for customer-facing contact

* You need a smart-phone or other device that can install apps, used for multifactor authentication and security * Physical Demands: the role occasionally calls for moving about the work area; sitting; manual tasks; using tools and office equipment such as a computer, computer peripherals and telephones; reaching out with the arms; kneeling; speaking and hearing * Mental Demands: following instruction, working with others, and coping with pressure * Work Environment: noise around the workspace is typically low
