Group B opener in Dubai

Bangladesh's women's cricket team began their Women's T20 Asia Cup 2026 campaign against Indonesia in a Group B fixture at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Sportstar reported that the match was scheduled for Monday, August 31, with a start time of 8 pm Indian Standard Time. It said the game would be televised on the Sony Sports Network and streamed on SonyLIV.

The Daily Star, reporting on the day of the fixture, described it as the opening assignment for both sides.

A debut and a long record

Indonesia were appearing at the tournament for the first time in their history, according to Sportstar. Bangladesh, by contrast, have played in every Twenty20 edition of the competition.

Sportstar listed Bangladesh's squad as Nigar Sultana Joty (captain), Nahida Akter (vice-captain), Dilara Akter, Farjana Easmin, Juairiya Ferdous, Sharmin Akter Supta, Sarmin Sultana, Sobhana Mostary, Shorna Akter, Ritu Moni, Fahima Khatun, Rabeya Khan, Marufa Akter, Sultana Khatun and Shanjida Akther Maghla.

Indonesia were listed under captain Nanda Sakarini, with Kadek Winda Prastini, Rahmawati Pangestuti, Wesika Ratna Dewi, Rada Rani, Desi Wulandari, Putri Suwandewi, Kisi Salisa Kasse, Sang Maypriani, Ni Kadek Ariani, Derni Bangi, Dara Agung Laksmi, Lie Qiao, Maria Corazon Wombaki and Sofia Velic.

Joty's stated target

Bangladesh, known as the Tigresses, won the tournament in 2018 and have not reached a final since. They went out at the semifinal stage in the last edition.

Speaking at the captains' meeting before the tournament, Joty said the team wanted to go further this time. "We have taken our preparations. We have been reaching semis and returning home recently, so definitely our target is to make the finals," she said, as quoted by The Daily Star.

The Daily Star added that Bangladesh usually draw solid support from fans in Dubai, but that the side's first priority was a winning start.

Remaining fixtures and open questions

Bangladesh are due to play their other two Group B matches against Sri Lanka on September 6 and the United Arab Emirates on September 8, The Daily Star reported.

A Mid-Day page carries a web address indicating that Nanda Sakarini won the toss and chose to bowl first against Bangladesh, but the text published on that page concerns an England versus Pakistan Test match rather than this fixture.

The result of the Bangladesh versus Indonesia match, and any individual scores or bowling figures, are not reported in the available sources. The full composition of Group B beyond the three named opponents is also not stated.
