Duke and Duchess's Disagreement with Royal Family

A friend of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, claims that they never agreed to the 'half in, half out' model of royal duties, according to reports.

The couple, who returned to the UK from their self-imposed exile in Montecito, California, are said to be untroubled by accusations that they are trying to resume royal duties by stealth.

Their stance is in contrast to the decision made at the Sandringham Summit in 2020, where the late Queen Elizabeth II established that the Sussexes could not adopt a 'half-in, half-out model' as part-time royals.

Public Perception and Official Statements

Buckingham Palace has reiterated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no longer working members of the royal family, stating that their charitable work is a personal matter for them and undertaken in their private capacity.

A source close to the couple acknowledged the tension: 'Of course there is distance between him and his brother. Things are not perfect between him and his father.'

The King, Charles, has taken the step of writing to public bodies to make clear that the Sussexes should be treated as private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.
