The Crime

In January 1995, Christa Pike, Tadaryl Shipp, and Shadolla Peterson, all students at Jobs Corps in Knoxville, Tennessee, lured Colleen Slemmer into the woods, where they tortured and bludgeoned her to death.

Pike and Shipp, who were a couple at the time, were convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Shipp was 17 years old and could not receive the death penalty under state law.

Peterson pleaded guilty to being an accessory and received a sentence of six years probation.

Sentencing Details

Shipp was sentenced to life in prison and 25 years for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. As of October 2025, he was denied parole and will be eligible again in 2031.

Peterson was sentenced to six years probation, having initially faced a murder charge but secured a plea deal that only required proof of her presence at the crime.

Shipp reportedly had satanic elements in his background, including wearing pentagram necklaces and having satanic paraphernalia in his dorm room.
