Hazy conditions in Singapore

The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) in Singapore's central region reached 192 at 5pm on October 9, 2026, marking the highest reading of the year's haze season.

Hourly PM2.5 levels remained elevated, with regions moving in and out of the high band. PSI readings across the island remained in the unhealthy range throughout the day, with some areas dipping into the moderate range briefly.

The worsening air quality has prompted schools to adjust activities, including sending children to school with masks and suspending outdoor enrichment activities. Contingency plans are in place for the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix, including the provision of N95 masks and medical assistance if needed.

Impact on neighboring countries

The haze, caused by fires in Indonesia, has also affected neighboring Malaysia, where some schools have been ordered to close.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) forecast that moderate to dense smoke plumes from southern and central Sumatra and West Kalimantan were observed drifting towards Singapore, with dry conditions expected to continue in the neighboring Indonesian territories.
