Travel Disruptions

Amber warnings for wind and rain have led to significant travel disruptions in the UK and Ireland. Railways and ferry services have been affected, with people advised not to travel north of Preston on some lines. Many flights across the Irish Sea have also been cancelled.

On the roads, sections of motorways and A-roads in Scotland were closed due to flooding and fallen trees. The local rescue team in the Cairngorms declared that winter had arrived early, highlighting the severity of the storm.

Power Outages

Over 80,000 customers across Great Britain were without power on Sunday morning, with many more in Ireland. The Energy Networks Association reported that power cuts were widespread, affecting both the UK and Ireland. In Wales, 555 homes in Rhayader and about 100 homes across south Wales were also left without power.

The National Grid and SP Energy Network teams are working to restore power as quickly as possible, though some areas may face longer disruptions. The Met Office warned of continued wet and windy conditions over the coming hours.

Weather Warnings

The Met Office has issued amber warnings for wind in Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland, with gusts of up to 85mph recorded. Yellow warnings for rain and wind cover parts of the UK, including South Uist, Wiltshire, and North Wales. Heavy downpours have caused significant flooding, with the Environment Agency issuing 58 alerts for potential flooding.
