Storm Austen Approaches Ireland

Met Éireann has issued status orange and yellow rain warnings for parts of Ireland as Storm Austen moves in from the Atlantic.

The severe weather is expected to affect Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Dublin, Wexford, and Wicklow, with the warnings remaining in place until Friday morning.

Potential for Flooding

Forecasters warn that river levels are expected to rise, particularly in Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow, Wexford, Wicklow, Kildare, Laois, Offaly, and Dublin. This could result in rivers exceeding their banks.

Senior Met Éireann Forecaster Gerry Murphy highlighted the potential for flooding, especially in smaller river catchments and areas with leaves and blocked drains, advising people to be alert to surface flooding.

Travel and Outdoor Events

Travelers are advised to expect disruption, with public transport potentially affected by the severe weather.

Outdoor events, including the Dublin City Marathon, may be impacted due to the forecasted heavy rain and wind conditions.
