Weather Forecast

A yellow alert has been issued for nine districts in Kerala, including Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, for October 9, 2026. The alert is due to thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an upper air cyclonic circulation is over the south Keralam coast, supported by a trough running from the coast to south interior Karnataka. This weather system is expected to continue until October 10, leading to thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

Regional Weather Conditions

While Kerala prepares for severe weather, other parts of India are experiencing contrasting conditions. Snowfall in the higher Himalayan regions, including Uttarakhand, has intensified cold temperatures. Snow covered peaks near Hemkund Sahib and in Pithoragarh district have been reported, and rainfall has affected lower elevations, bringing down temperatures.

Delhi-NCR is expected to experience dry weather with partly cloudy skies, with temperatures around 34 degrees Celsius and winds from the southeast at speeds of 10 to 15 kmph during the day.
