Trump’s comments on Iran
US President Donald Trump stated during a campaign rally in Kansas that the United States could leave the Iran war now, given the country’s military and leadership being 'devastated'.
Trump claimed that Iran had no navy or air force left, with its radar and air defenses destroyed, and that 229 Iranian fighter jets were 'scattered all over the runways'. He also noted that the remaining leaders had asked him to guarantee they would not be killed.
He criticized Iran’s crackdown on dissent, stating that Iranian authorities had killed at least 75,000 protesters over the past eight months.
Trump referred to the execution of wrestler Saleh Mohammadi, describing it as a 'world champion' being 'hanged by cranes'.
Iran’s response
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh stressed that ending hostilities across all fronts was essential to achieving lasting peace in the region.
Khatibzadeh warned that continued fighting in any area would prolong the wider conflict and reiterated Iran’s commitment to ending the Israeli war on Lebanon, citing the Islamabad memorandum of understanding signed with the United States in mid-June.
He described the exchanges with the US as 'good' and confirmed meetings with Lebanese leaders, emphasizing that Israel must stop its war in Lebanon and the Levant.
