The company is independently led, profitable, and in a state of growth. We are currently seeking a UX Designer for Developer Experience to collaborate with our exceptional engineering teams at Canonical and play a pivotal role in enhancing the global development and distribution of software.
Our design team is dedicated to simplifying complex open-source software into user-friendly products that can transform the way complex systems are built and what open-source technologies can achieve in enterprise IT. We are actively seeking a skilled and technically savvy user experience designer who shares our vision.
This position falls under the design team, reporting to the Developer Experience design manager. Location: This role will be remote, with a focus on the EMEA region. Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing tools that facilitate the building, packaging, and maintenance of software, with a focus on open-source solutions. - Collaborating closely with product managers and engineers to shape the future of developer experience. - Supporting the development of complex products through design and UX heuristics. - Contributing to the evolution and promotion of design systems that enhance consistency and efficiency. - Understanding the broader implications of your work and its various interconnected constraints. - Supporting a working group to enable Canonical design's horizontal efforts.
We are seeking candidates who:
- Possess an exceptional academic background, including a strong high school and university record. - Have a bachelor's degree in User Experience, Design, or a relevant STEM field, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path. - Are passionate and knowledgeable about user experience, technology, and design. - Are committed to continuous learning and improvement, showing curiosity, flexibility, and a scientific approach. - Are result-oriented and driven to complete tasks and celebrate success. - Are confident in conducting user research. - Stay updated with the latest design research and innovation. - Are willing to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks to attend company events.
UX designers should excel in communication and be comfortable working with a diverse mix of engineers, designers, and executives. They should represent the company at cross-functional meetings and present design positions with clarity and precision. They should be confident and eager to tackle complex design challenges. Additionally, they should be able to link their design leadership to the company's strategic vision.
