About Quora:

Quora's mission is to expand the world's collective wisdom. To achieve this, we operate two primary platforms:

* Quora: a global knowledge-sharing platform with over 300 million monthly unique visitors, where people come together to share insights on diverse topics and connect with others.

* Poe: a platform that offers a wide array of AI language models, including GPT-5.6-Sol, Claude-Opus-5, Claude-Fable-5, Claude-Sonnet-5, Kimi-K3, and many others, to millions of global users. Poe provides a single place for users to chat, explore, and build with these models. As AI capabilities evolve, Poe serves as a hub for integrating and utilizing these new models.

Behind these products are dedicated, collaborative, and high-performing global teams. We foster a culture of transparency, open communication, and experimentation, enabling us to achieve collective success and grow together through meaningful work. Join us on this journey to make a positive impact and create significant change in the world.

This role will support both Quora and Poe products.

About the Team and Role:

You will join the newly established Security Engineering Team, with a focus on safeguarding Quora by building strong security measures around our products, infrastructure, and people. Our small engineering team tackles complex challenges daily. We emphasize continuous learning and improvement, encouraging our engineers to think creatively and experiment with innovative ideas.

What We're Looking For:

* Detail-Oriented and Strategic: You excel in understanding intricate details while prioritizing critical issues effectively.

* Flexible and Adaptable: You recognize that standard guidelines and frameworks may not always fit the problem and are adept at customizing solutions for scalability.

* Driven and Resilient: You are focused on outcomes and adept at navigating obstacles, decomposing complex issues, managing your time, and articulating your vision to peers and management.

An Ideal Candidate Would...

be a skilled software engineer with expertise in at least one of the following areas:

* Cloud Infrastructure Security: You have experience securing large-scale cloud environments, especially with AWS. You are passionate about crafting secure infrastructure-as-code (IaC) pipelines using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation. You are familiar with IAM policies, network segmentation, and VPC design and have a deep understanding of monitoring and logging in cloud-native environments. You are skilled in identifying misconfigurations, mitigating risks, and driving remediation processes. Bonus points if you have experience securing Kubernetes clusters or serverless architectures.

* Automation and Secure Development Practices: You advocate for "security as code" and are skilled at automating security processes. You can develop and integrate security tools into CI/CD pipelines to ensure secure code delivery. Tools like SAST, DAST, and dependency scanning are part of your daily toolkit, and you have experience integrating them into workflows to catch vulnerabilities early. You also mentor teams in secure coding practices.

* Linux/OS Security: You are knowledgeable about AWS infrastructure security but also passionate about scalability, reliability, and operational rigor. Beyond that, you understand that root does not mean root and are enthusiastic about container security, POSIX Capabilities, SECCOMP, and have a preference for certain flavors of LSM. In your free time, you enjoy experimenting with OSQuery and eBPF.

* Product Security (Nice-to-Have): While not a requirement, experience building secure web applications and APIs, with a working knowledge of the OWASP Top 10 and common vulnerabilities such as XSS, CSRF, and SQL injection, is highly beneficial. It complements the infrastructure security focus of this role and enhances collaboration with product teams.

Responsibilities:

* Collaborate with engineering teams to review cloud and compute architecture design changes.

* Develop or adopt open-source tools to monitor and secure our cloud infrastructure, harden our operating systems, and establish security logging pipelines to detect intrusions.

* Apply your expertise in security best practices for AWS and Kubernetes to inform remediation efforts and the team's control roadmap.

* Write code for automations that support security requirements such as threat detection, incident containment, and network access management.

* Conduct initial incident triage; determine the scope, urgency, and potential impact of security incidents; and participate in the incident response process.

At Quora, we value diversity and inclusivity and welcome individuals from all backgrounds, including underrepresented groups in tech, to apply for our job openings. We encourage all candidates who share a passion for expanding the world's knowledge, even those who may not strictly meet all the preferred requirements, to apply, as we believe that a diverse range of perspectives can significantly impact our products and our culture.

Additional Information:

Successful candidates must be available for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's "coordination hours" (Monday to Friday: 9am-3pm Pacific Time).

We are accepting applications on an ongoing basis.

Quora offers a variety of benefits including medical/dental/vision coverage, equity refreshers, remote work reimbursement, paid time off, and employee assistance programs. Benefits are country-specific and may vary.

There are many factors that will determine the starting pay, including but not limited to experience, location, education, and business needs.

* For US candidates: The salary range is $172,279 - $249,640 USD + equity + benefits.
