About this job
About Enode
Today's energy grid, originally designed for stable, centralized power, now accommodates variable energy sources like solar and wind, and dynamic energy demands such as electric vehicles (EVs), heat pumps, and home energy storage systems. The crucial piece missing is advanced software that can efficiently manage and orchestrate these diverse devices at scale.
Enode offers the foundational platform to bridge this gap. Our Connect API provides a unified integration solution for over 1000 devices across 80 brands, empowering energy companies to manage these devices effectively. Our optimization tools enable local management of these devices, such as intelligent EV charging. Our Flex product transforms connected devices into a flexible, controllable asset for energy companies.
We collaborate with manufacturers across the energy hardware spectrum, from EV brands to those producing heat pumps and solar inverters. Our clients are energy retailers, utilities, and traders working to develop the future of energy services. Backed by prestigious investors like Y Combinator, Lowercarbon Capital, and Creandum, we're at the forefront of innovation.
Decisions made now will shape the future of our energy system. We seek individuals who take ownership, act quickly, and deeply care about the role of technology in advancing the energy transition.
AI is Central to Our Operations
At Enode, AI is integral to how we innovate and scale operations swiftly. We seek team members who instinctively leverage AI and are open to changing habits that no longer serve our mission. We value those who prioritize empowering others and fostering collaboration over individual accomplishments. If this aligns with your growth trajectory, we welcome your application. This is assessed during our interview process.
What We're Looking For:
Enode is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to enhance our software layer, enabling home energy devices to function as a cohesive system. The Home Energy team is responsible for integrating batteries, solar inverters, HVAC systems, and smart meters, alongside the home energy management (HEM) system and customer analytics. You will collaborate with OEMs to mature our API surface, supporting unified control for the home.
You will report to the Home Energy team's Engineering Manager and work closely with product managers, backend engineers, and commercial teams. Your role involves:
- Building and maintaining integrations with leading OEM cloud platforms for batteries, solar, smart meters, and HVAC. - Designing and refining our home energy APIs, unifying telemetry and controls across the HEM system, batteries, and curtailment. - Integrating AI into your development workflow, sharing your knowledge to benefit the entire team. - Enhancing observability and vendor performance across integrations, participating in the team's triage rotations. - Collaborating with commercial teams to assess API feasibility for new OEM integrations. - Building and maintaining strong relationships with platform-dependent customers. - Debugging and deploying production features in Node/TypeScript on our AWS-based infrastructure. - Approaching tasks with a product-engineering mindset, balancing speed, quality, and customer impact.
Curious about what you would be building? Explore our API documentation and the Enode Tech Blog to see our current projects.
This Position is Ideal for You If:
- You are an enthusiastic backend engineer who thrives on end-to-end ownership, from problem identification to production deployment. - You find integration challenges rewarding, working with diverse third-party APIs. - You navigate ambiguity and bring clarity and structure to teams. - You have experience building and maintaining production backend services, particularly in API or integration-heavy systems. - You are adept at designing for reliability, scalability, and performance. - You can lead work from initial scoping to production release, incorporating customer or usage feedback. - You are comfortable in fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environments, where teams collaborate to create clarity. - You communicate clearly across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams. - You embrace a product mindset, focusing on solving the right problems and enhancing customer and team experiences.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with TypeScript/Node, AWS services, PostgreSQL, or similar production tools. - Familiarity with home energy assets, energy markets, or IoT ecosystems. - Prior involvement with API-first products or integration platforms. - Incident response or on-call experience.
What We Offer:
- The opportunity to join and impact a pioneering climate tech startup with global ambitions as we scale. - A mission-driven, vibrant, and supportive environment with high drive and ambition. - Competitive compensation, including an attractive employee stock option program. - Access to advanced AI tools, reflecting the potential of a small team's capabilities. - A dedicated focus on developing AI fluency, with allocated time, internal resources, and budget support. - A remote-first approach in Europe, with the option to work from our Oslo office or through a flexible co-working arrangement. - Three annual off-sites to connect with the team in exciting and fun locations. - A flexible, human-first culture. - A stipend for setting up your home office.
Additional Notes:
- Enode is committed to equal opportunities. We encourage applications from candidates who may not meet all the qualifications but are excited about the role. - Our core values guide our work and hiring processes. You can learn more about our values here.
