We are seeking a Senior Ubuntu Embedded IoT System Engineer to represent Canonical with leading OEMs, ODMs, and silicon partners, ensuring the best Ubuntu experience on their hardware. You will leverage your Linux and hardware expertise to enhance Ubuntu for millions of users.

Our team works closely with major silicon manufacturers like Intel, AMD, Nvidia, Mediatek, Hisilicon, and Samsung to optimize Ubuntu on their cutting-edge chips. We also partner with OEMs and ODMs such as Dell, HP, Lenovo, Advantech, and ADLink to ensure seamless integration of Ubuntu on their devices.

This role requires a fast-paced environment, excellent time management, advanced debugging skills, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and deep knowledge of the Linux system. The position is based remotely in the EMEA region.

Responsibilities include:

- Providing software and system engineering services for OEM and ODM customers - Collaborating closely with partners on platform bring-up - Working with project managers and Field/QA engineers to address and resolve critical issues - Identifying, triaging, and fixing bugs by applying patches from upstream projects - Conducting root cause analysis and documenting findings for reproduction and explanation - Facilitating communication between Ubuntu, firmware, and hardware engineering teams

Occasional international travel to the EU, USA, Taiwan, and China may be required.

What we seek in candidates:

- A bachelor's or higher degree in STEM fields, preferably Computer Science or Electrical Engineering - Strong academic performance from high school and university - Professional written and verbal English skills with excellent presentation abilities - Proficiency in C, Python, and Bash - Understanding of the Linux boot process - Knowledge of Linux kernel, boot, and system-level architecture - Experience in bootloader development, such as u-boot - Background in software development on Arm or non-X86 platforms - Proficiency in Linux debugging and resolution - Ability to excel in a distributed work environment - Capacity to quickly adapt and work on cutting-edge technologies - Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks in duration

Desirable skills:

- Experience with system firmware, including u-boot, UEFI, ACPI, DSDT, boot loaders, and device firmware - Debugging expertise in power management on PCI ASPM, SATA ALPM, and low power profiles - Experience in board design, bring-up, and validation - Proficiency in electrical engineering design tools (e.g., schematic capture, layout) - In-depth knowledge of x86, ARM, and RISC-V architectures - Familiarity with Ubuntu development practices - Shell/Python scripting skills
