We are seeking engineering managers with expertise in high-quality microservice architectures and high-performance team management, along with deep familiarity in the Linux kernel, virtualization, storage, and networking.

LXD components cover a wide range of the software stack, from low-level kernel features to upper-level management APIs and CLI. Our most effective engineers are adept in all these areas and can foresee the implications of design and engineering decisions in complex distributed systems.

As an engineering manager at Canonical, your role involves a strong technical background, but your primary responsibility is to lead and develop a high-performing team. You will be expected to mentor and coach your team, set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders, and advocate for modern software development practices. You will contribute to the engineering process through code and architectural reviews and engage with teams at Canonical, the open-source community, and partners.

This is a remote position available in EMEA and the Americas. You will focus on:

- Leading a team of remote engineers - Developing talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development - Setting and managing expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders - Advocating and advancing modern software development practices - Participating in the engineering process through code and architectural reviews - Engaging with teams at Canonical, the open-source community, and partners - Working from home, with global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events

We are looking for candidates with:

- A deep understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes - A passion for developing and growing people, with a proven track record of success - A commitment to delivering high-quality, timely software - A Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field - Strong written and verbal technical communication skills - Experience programming in C and/or Go
