We are currently seeking a dedicated Ubuntu Core Software Engineer to innovate the Linux experience for embedded environments. This role is ideal for a software engineer who is passionate about open-source software, security, and the developer experience. The position requires a high level of technical expertise in low-level operating systems, kernel, and device firmware.
Our mission is to enable everyone to develop robust solutions in areas such as IoT, automotive, and aviation using the next generation of secure embedded Linux operating systems. We focus on creating reliable and secure recovery mechanisms to simplify field operations for diverse devices.
As a member of the Ubuntu Core team, you will design and implement software for various CPU architectures, including ARM, RISC-V, and X86. You will work on boot mechanisms, storage partition layouts, device trees, and kernel services.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop high-quality code with comprehensive unit tests for new features - Investigate and resolve Linux system-level issues through high-quality code - Actively collaborate with a distributed team - Review and provide feedback on the code of other engineers - Share ideas and collaborate on finding effective solutions - Integrate and maintain diverse bootloaders and gadget snaps - Work remotely with occasional global travel 2 to 4 times a year for internal and external events
What We Seek in You:
- A genuine passion for technology and collaboration with exceptional colleagues - Curiosity, flexibility, and accountability - A commitment to soft skills and a spirit of enterprise, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation - A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field - Proficiency in C or Golang, and Shell - A strong understanding of Linux and a modern GNU/Linux distribution, with a preference for Debian or Ubuntu - Practical experience with Linux-capable devices such as Raspberry Pi - Knowledge or interest in low-level systems and security, including: - ARM and X86 bootloaders like piboot, uboot, and grub-uefi - Systemd and units, udev, initrd, and graphics - OS-level firmware daemons and CLI applications - Linux security implementations such as TPM, FDE, LUKS, HSM, etc. - Familiarity with Yocto is a plus
