We are seeking a Software Engineer for Ubuntu Core to revolutionize the embedded environment with the smallest, most secure, and updatable operating system in the IoT market. This position is ideal for a software engineer who is enthusiastic about open-source software, Linux, security, and the developer experience. This role requires advanced technical skills in low-level operating systems, the kernel, and device firmware.
Our mission is to enable the creation of robust solutions in fields such as IoT, automotive, and aviation using the next generation of secure embedded Linux operating systems. We develop reliable and secure recovery mechanisms for devices, simplifying and standardizing field operations for diverse appliance fleets.
As part of the Ubuntu Core team, you will design and implement software across various CPU architectures, including ARM, RISC-V, and X86. You will focus on boot mechanisms, bootloaders, storage partition layout, device trees, kernel, and services.

Responsibilities include:
* Developing high-quality code with unit tests for new features * Identifying and resolving Linux system-level issues * Actively collaborating with a distributed team * Reviewing and providing feedback on code from other engineers * Discussing and collaborating on finding effective solutions * Integrating diverse bootloaders and maintaining gadget snaps
Requirements:
* Passion for technology and working with talented individuals * Curiosity, flexibility, articulateness, and accountability * A Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field * Experience with C or Golang, and Shell * A strong understanding of Linux and a modern GNU/Linux distribution, with a preference for Debian or Ubuntu * Experience with Linux-capable devices such as Raspberry Pi * Interest or experience in low-level systems and security, including: - ARM and X86 bootloaders such as piboot, u-boot, and grub-uefi - Systemd and units, udev, initrd, and graphics - OS-level firmware daemons and CLI applications - Linux security implementations like TPM, full disk encryption, LUKS, HSM, etc.
Additional experience with Yocto is advantageous.
