The Bid and the Player's Position

Liverpool have been in talks with Crystal Palace over a transfer for winger Ismaila Sarr, with the Senegal international pushing to leave Selhurst Park before the window closes.

Liverpoolfc.com reported that a bid of £50million was rejected earlier in the week, and that Sarr had given the green light to the move after turning down approaches from Galatasaray of Turkey and Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia. It cited Sky Sports Switzerland as saying both clubs were in advanced talks.

The Sun reported that an offer had been made but that sources at Palace would not confirm the figure. It said Liverpool and Sarr's representatives were waiting on Palace's response, with movement expected before the window shut on Tuesday.

Sarr's Record at Palace

Sarr joined Palace from French club Marseille in August 2024. talkSPORT reported he has scored 33 goals and provided 10 assists for the Eagles since arriving.

The Sun reported that he scored 21 times in all competitions last season, his best return in front of goal, after 12 the previous campaign. His contributions helped Palace win the FA Cup and the Conference League, a UEFA club competition.

He has three years left on his contract, which The Sun noted leaves Palace in a strong negotiating position. The Sun said Sarr feels he has run his race at Selhurst Park and wants to test himself at the highest level.

Reasons for the Move and the Reaction

The two publications differ on why Sarr has not played this season. Liverpoolfc.com said he had not featured in either of Palace's opening two matches as he tried to seal a move away, while talkSPORT said he was sidelined by a groin injury.

talkSPORT reported that Sarr has removed all Palace-related content from his Instagram account, and that Palace are not willing to let him go this late in the window. It said Sarr is seen as a replacement for Cody Gakpo, who is being courted by Manchester City.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, Ally McCoist said he did not see the deal happening and that losing Sarr would be a disaster for Palace. Co-host Jeff Stelling disagreed, saying he had not expected Sarr to kick on the way he had at Palace.

The Wider Window

Both The Sun and talkSPORT reported that Liverpool are closing in on Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, with talkSPORT valuing that deal at up to £123million. The Sun said Liverpool remain keen to add another right-sided winger.

talkSPORT said signing Sarr would give Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola a serious selection headache. Palace have lost both league matches so far, 2-0 to Everton and 4-1 to Manchester City, and travel to Fulham on Saturday.

It is not yet known whether Palace will accept any offer, and the sources do not report a final fee or an agreed deal.
