Premier League window closes Tuesday after record spending

The 2026 summer transfer window closes at 23:00 BST on Tuesday 1 September, according to premierleague.com, which says the window has been open since 15 June.

The same closing date applies to the English Football League (EFL) and to Germany's Bundesliga, Italy's Serie A, Spain's LaLiga and France's Ligue 1, premierleague.com says, to keep Europe's major competitions aligned.

Deals can still be announced after the deadline. Clubs get a two-hour grace period if they have filed a deal sheet, a document confirming an agreement has been reached. BBC Sport reports that the deal sheet must go to the Premier League before 21:00 BST.

BBC Sport adds that clubs then submit a squad list, understood to be due about a week after the window shuts. Squads cannot exceed 25 players aged over 21, with a maximum of 17 who are not classed as locally trained.

The summer's biggest fees

Liverpool announced the signing of France winger Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain on Monday. Al Jazeera reports the 23-year-old signed a five-year deal in a package worth about $162m, making him the most expensive Premier League signing of the window so far.

Chelsea signed attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa on 21 July for a British record 117 million pounds ($158m), on a deal until 2033, Al Jazeera reports. Manchester City had set the previous British record on 2 July, paying Nottingham Forest 116 million pounds ($153m) for midfielder Elliot Anderson.

Tottenham Hotspur bought Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United for 92.5 million pounds ($125m) and Portugal midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for 85 million pounds ($112m). Premierleague.com also lists Spurs taking Savio and Omar Marmoush from Manchester City, with Marmoush arriving on an initial loan.

Arsenal added Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle and defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa. Manchester United signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea, Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Deals still unresolved

The Guardian reports Manchester City are expected to sign Cody Gakpo from Liverpool, and that Chelsea are expected to sell midfielder Enzo Fernandez to City, though neither is confirmed. BBC Sport says Manchester City winger Jack Grealish is of interest to Everton and Aston Villa, with Everton confident of a second loan season.

Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is of interest to Arsenal and Barcelona, BBC Sport says. The Guardian reports Arsenal have not landed him so far.
