Apology and Retraction Demand
A retired officer of the State Security Service (SSS), Nwaogu Ezeakolam, has apologized to the SSS's director-general, Oluwatosin Ajayi, for taking an internal dispute public.
Ezeakolam's apology came after he accused SSS operatives of detaining him following a petition that alleged he was an Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) commander and accused the leadership of mismanaging welfare funds.
In a letter to Ajayi, Ezeakolam acknowledged that his decision to escalate the matter to an online media space was a 'serious error in judgment' and expressed deep regret for the harm and embarrassment his actions may have caused.
Legal Threat and Retraction Demand
Through his lawyer, Edmund C. Ben, principal partner of Lawminds Associates, Ezeakolam demanded the retraction of an article published by SaharaReporters on June 29, 2026, which he said contained inaccuracies and unsubstantiated claims.
The law firm’s letter, dated October 16, 2026, emphasized the importance of responsible journalism and factual accuracy, requesting the media outlet to publish Ezeakolam’s official response and correct any inaccuracies.
The dispute centers on Ezeakolam's disclosure of internal matters and the SSS's response, with Ezeakolam pleading for the matter to be resolved internally and Ajayi to temper justice with mercy.
