We are seeking an Associate Support Engineer to join Canonical and support the technical needs of customers using Ubuntu and other open-source technologies. This role offers a hands-on opportunity for a technically inclined engineer eager to learn, passionate about Linux and open-source technologies, to collaborate with industry experts at Canonical.
We tackle fascinating, technical challenges daily, from diagnosing complex cloud environments and desktop/server issues to Linux kernel crashes that haven’t been seen before, and more. You will be responsible for providing exceptional technical support and satisfaction to our peers and customers across cloud, desktop, and IoT. From problem identification to resolution, you will manage your cases. When necessary, you will delegate your cases to colleagues or involve senior engineers. This role is fully remote.
Role Details - Work from your home office to provide technical support for our employees. - Own and manage new cases through various communication channels (phone, email, web). - Serve as a customer advocate, keeping them informed in a timely manner. - Handle support cases according to our Service Level Agreement (SLA) to ensure the highest customer satisfaction. - Contribute to and maintain knowledge base articles, ensuring shared knowledge and lessons learned are accessible to customers. - Draft and distribute technical notices for internal and external communication. - Prioritize tasks to focus on the most critical and urgent issues. - Continuously learn and adapt as our products and services evolve. - Understand the Ubuntu development process to accurately set customer expectations regarding fix timelines. - Maintain regular communication and information exchange with the team, both locally and remotely. - Identify and suggest opportunities to enhance service quality. - Participate in regular weekend working rotations.
Qualifications and Requirements - Strong academic background, including relevant high school and university education. - Undergraduate degree in a technical field or a compelling narrative about an alternative path. Preferred majors include Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, etc. - Confident in communicating and exchanging ideas respectfully. - Proven track record of exceeding expectations to achieve exceptional results. - Experience with Linux troubleshooting (collecting logs, stack traces, fine-tuning configuration files). - Knowledge or hands-on experience in two or more of the following areas: Linux server administration, programming (bash, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, C, C++, Go), networking, virtualization/cloud computing. - Quick learner, adaptable to change, and able to handle the demands of a customer-facing role. - Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. - Appreciates diversity and is effective in a multicultural, multinational organization. - Results-driven, with a personal commitment to meeting commitments. - Willing to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks for company events.
