We are actively seeking an Engineering Manager for Identity and Access Management (IAM) to spearhead the development of high-performing Go and Python services and secure identity and access management solutions that will be integral to all our products. Your team will be responsible for enhancing the user experience of Canonical applications like Ubuntu One SSO, Juju, LXD, and MAAS.
This is a unique opportunity for a software engineering manager passionate about distributed systems to contribute to the future of identity management at Canonical. While experience in IAM is beneficial, it is not mandatory. You will work closely with both internal teams and upstream open source projects to deliver top-quality software deployable on bare metal, public cloud, and Kubernetes.
In this role, you will lead a team in defining the technical vision for our products, manage the backlog, review code, and mentor junior members. You will be involved in every phase of the software development process, from design to troubleshooting, ensuring the highest standards of quality and security.
You will also have the chance to collaborate with industry-leading teams, ensuring your work is supported by robust data stores and observability tools. Engage in hackfest events, webinars, and conferences to stay at the forefront of technology trends.
This role will be based remotely in the EMEA or AMER regions.
What we seek in you:
- Proven experience in hiring and leading a high-performance software engineering team - Expertise in Go and Python software development - Ability to design and implement complex, distributed systems - Experience with container technology and Kubernetes - Strong understanding of software/infrastructure security and performance - Experience with large-scale distributed systems - Knowledge of IAM technologies and standards is a plus - Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university - Undergraduate degree in a technical field or a compelling narrative about your alternative path - Excellent written and spoken English, with strong presentation skills - Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability - Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long
