We seek a Web Engineering Manager to collaborate with diverse teams and roles within the organization, including product managers and other engineering groups, to ensure reliable, scalable, and user-friendly web experiences for Canonical's products.
Key responsibilities include:
- Guiding and fostering the development of web engineers to ensure they are contributing effectively and enjoying their work. - Leading a team of skilled engineers, providing robust technical guidance and support. - Contributing to web development through design, implementation, and maintaining high standards. - Troubleshooting and resolving issues reported by users. - Engaging in code and architecture reviews to enhance our engineering processes. - Collaborating with teams and the broader community on technical specifications and documentation. - Advocating for technical improvements and best practices. - Overseeing the deployment and operation of web services.
We seek candidates with:
- A strong background in web and software development. - Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. - A proven track record of excellence and going above and beyond expectations. - An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent background. - Professional demeanor and the ability to effectively interact with colleagues, partners, and the community. - Experience with web technologies, particularly TypeScript, React, or Flutter. - A focus on accessibility and performance. - Fluent written and spoken English. - Familiarity with Linux, preferably Debian or Ubuntu. - A proactive attitude, with a commitment to personal and professional development. - The ability to travel twice a year for up to two weeks to participate in company events.
Nice-to-have skills include:
- Experience with container technologies like LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes. - Expertise in building and maintaining high-performing teams. - REST API design, development, and governance. - Performance engineering and security expertise.
