Position: Mechanical Engineering Technician Type: Contract Location: Remote

micro1 is seeking experienced Mechanical Engineering Technicians to assist in a project focused on the development of advanced AI benchmarks for a client. Your role will involve applying your domain expertise to support the training of next-generation AI systems. This work will contribute to the development of how AI models learn, reason, and perform using high-quality, real-world data.

Scope of Work

- Create and write authentic technician workflow tasks that address real-world challenges, including test setup, instrumentation, data collection, and failure diagnosis. - Source, integrate, and assemble technical datasets (like test logs, calibration records, sensor outputs, and failure reports) from practical lab or production environments. - Formulate precise solution pathways, including the analysis of test data and proposing strategic next steps. - Construct detailed, 35+ item grading rubrics to assess technical skills in instrumentation logic, data interpretation, and failure analysis, useful for both AI and domain experts. - Prepare comprehensive technical procedures, observations, and diagnostic findings with utmost accuracy and clarity. - Ensure all evaluation tasks meet professional complexity and realism standards, surpassing simple textbook examples.

Preferred Qualifications

- At least 4 years of practical experience in lab, test, or production settings within mechanical engineering technology. - A recognized associate degree or trade credential in mechanical engineering technology or a related field. - Extensive background in working with instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition systems, and prototype testing workflows. - Proven capability to document technical test procedures, outcomes, and failure modes in depth. - Strong analytical skills for interpreting complex data and diagnosing equipment or process issues. - Familiarity with technical documentation formats such as CSVs, spreadsheets, PDFs, and other relevant files. - Comfort in independently contributing to remote projects and meeting high technical standards.

Compensation
