We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineering Manager to take on a top-tier devops and gitops engineering management challenge, blending operations management, software engineering, and product development into a high-value role. A deep understanding of Linux and operations, alongside strong leadership skills, are essential for success in this position.

The Information Systems team at Canonical manages services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users. Our mission is to pioneer and demonstrate new and improved approaches to large-scale information systems. We support Canonical and Ubuntu operations, while also contributing to the development of Canonical’s managed application service offerings, setting a new standard for devops and cloud-native operations. We push the boundaries of infrastructure as code, driving innovation in next-generation model-driven operations. Our goal is to automate every process that underpins our business, and we share this automation as open-source packages for the benefit of others. From Kubernetes to the kernel and beyond, you will be working with the latest technologies in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Our teams are fully distributed and based in EMEA, APAC, and the Americas. You will lead a team in your time zone and report to a global director who may not be in your time zone.

Role Location: This role is remote, with the option to work in the APAC or EMEA region.

Key Responsibilities:

- Guide your team through daily agile devops practices - Represent the IS team to stakeholders, customers, and internal teams - Organize, coordinate, and drive internal projects - Mentor engineers to enhance their skills - Identify and measure team health indicators - Implement structured engineering and operations processes - Ensure the team focuses on priorities, milestones, and deliverables - Work towards meeting service level agreements for global customer deployments - Provide high-quality managed services consistently and timely

What We Are Looking For:

- A strong drive and a proven track record of exceeding expectations - Experience in software delivery using infrastructure as code - Experience managing devops teams for SaaS or similar offerings - Knowledge of testing methodologies and maintainable code quality - Technical expertise for understanding complex distributed systems - Familiarity with cloud topologies and technologies - Willingness to travel twice a year for company events, up to two weeks in duration - Exceptional academic credentials from both high school and university

Nice-to-Have Skills:

- Experience with Ubuntu system administration - Experience with agile software development methodologies - Experience working in and managing distributed teams
