Newcastle beat Spurs 2-0 as Hull make it two from two

Newcastle's First League Win

Second-half goals from Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa gave Newcastle United a 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur, a first Premier League victory for head coach Matthias Jaissle.

RTE reports that Elanga opened the scoring in the 62nd minute after former Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali switched off, with Wissa adding a second 10 minutes later. Spurs had spent 100 million pounds on taking Tonali from Newcastle and have signed eight players this summer, according to RTE.

Jaissle told Sky Sports he was proud of his players and singled out the clean sheet. "I just said to the lads in the locker room we can count now our defensive stability," he said, adding that debutant Nico Gonzalez had good timing on the ball.

Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi, also speaking to Sky Sports, said his side played better for 65 minutes and had more chances. "We are not a team yet and have to improve on a lot of things but that is normal for a new team," he said. RTE notes it was De Zerbi's first home defeat and Tottenham's second loss of the league season.

Hull's Perfect Start

Substitute Liam Millar scored with eight minutes left to give Hull City a 1-0 win at Coventry City, capping a swift counter-attack.

That is two wins from two for Sergej Jakirovic's side, RTE reports, following a victory over Manchester United the previous weekend. Hull came up through the Championship play-offs last season, while Coventry were promoted as champions.

It was the first Premier League match played at the CBS Arena and the first top-flight meeting between the two clubs. Coventry dominated long spells without creating clearly, and the Guardian's live coverage noted boos at half-time. Their best chance came when a ball struck Taiwo Awoniyi at the back post and Konstantinos Tzolakis saved.

Late Drama At The Vitality

James Tarkowski headed in an added-time equaliser as Everton drew 1-1 at Bournemouth, denying Marco Rose a first win as Cherries head coach.

Alex Scott put Bournemouth ahead in the 41st minute, finishing from close range after Evanilson chased down a ball and picked him out. The Guardian noted the goal extended Jordan Pickford's wait for a 100th clean sheet.

A minute past 90, Tarkowski capitalised on a mix-up between Ryan Christie and Marcus Tavernier to drill home from a corner. RTE reports Evanilson had earlier wasted a chance to win it, while Thierno Barry squandered several openings for David Moyes' visitors.

RTE adds that Bournemouth were drawn against AC Milan in this season's Europa League on the Friday before the match. The BBC's live coverage also lists Nottingham Forest against Liverpool, with goals from Ndoye, Alexander Isak and a Morgan Gibbs-White penalty before Daniel Munoz levelled, though the sources do not give a final score for that game.
