Newcastle's First League Win
Newcastle United beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in London to hand head coach Matthias Jaissle his first Premier League victory. Anthony Elanga opened the scoring in the 62nd minute and Yoane Wissa added a second 10 minutes later.
RTE reported that Elanga's goal came after former Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali switched off. Spurs signed eight players over the summer, RTE said, including Tonali from Newcastle for £100 million. BBC Sport noted that Elanga's opener was the visitors' first shot on target.
Jaissle told Sky Sports he was proud of the performance and singled out the clean sheet. "I just said to the lads in the locker room we can count now our defensive stability," he said. Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi said his side played better for 65 minutes and had more chances, adding: "We are not a team yet and have to improve on a lot of things but that is normal for a new team." It was the second consecutive league defeat of the season for Spurs and De Zerbi's first home loss.
Late Drama on the South Coast
Bournemouth were held to a 1-1 draw at the Vitality Stadium by Everton. Alex Scott put the hosts ahead in the 41st minute, finishing a pass from Evanilson, according to Goal.com.
James Tarkowski equalised in the 91st minute. RTE reported that the Everton defender capitalised on a mix-up between Bournemouth pair Ryan Christie and Marcus Tavernier to score following a corner.
The result denied Bournemouth a first win under head coach Marco Rose. RTE also reported that Evanilson had wasted a chance to seal three points, while Everton striker Thierno Barry, playing for David Moyes' side, missed several opportunities.
Hull's Perfect Start
Hull City won 1-0 at Coventry City, with substitute Liam Millar scoring in the 82nd minute after a pass from Mohamed Belloumi. It was Hull's second win from two matches under Sergej Jakirovic, following a victory over Manchester United the previous weekend.
The Guardian reported that the result left Hull second in the table, with three goals scored and none conceded. Coventry, promoted as champions while Hull came up through the Championship play-offs, have scored none and conceded four.
RTE said it was the first Premier League match played at the CBS Arena and the first top-flight meeting between the two clubs. The Guardian noted Hull remain among the favourites for relegation despite the start. Elsewhere, BBC Sport reported goals from Dan Ndoye and Morgan Gibbs-White for Nottingham Forest, with Alexander Isak and Daniel Munoz replying; the sources do not give a final score for that match.
