We are seeking a senior design manager to spearhead the effort of making our open-source software accessible to a broader audience. The Design function at Canonical ensures that the software and infrastructure we develop align with our vision and meet the needs of our community and customers. As a Senior Design Manager, you will lead and mentor our design teams, guiding them in creating tools for developers and cloud engineers, and fostering tangible outcomes that elevate the quality of their work.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

- Overseeing the work of your design team to ensure high-quality outputs. - Supporting individual designers in their professional development. - Enhancing operational workflows, including production outsourcing and collaboration with Web Engineering. - Collaborating with stakeholders, particularly the Engineering organization, to clearly define and validate project outcomes. - Refining design systems and guidelines to maintain consistent quality and improve efficiency. - Facilitating communication and collaboration across design leadership to mature our collective practice. - Organizing and participating in sessions where designers can share their work and strengthen our culture. - Engaging with the open-source community to learn and enhance the visibility of our work.

We are looking for candidates who:

- Showcase a portfolio of outstanding UX design and a deep understanding of technology. - Have an impressive educational background in design or a related field. - Possess full lifecycle experience from user needs discovery through implementation. - Are committed to transparent project delivery and are responsible for meeting deadlines. - Have experience managing teams that interact with technical stakeholders. - Are familiar with quantitative optimization methods. - Have a passion for balancing consistency and innovation. - Are willing to travel up to four times a year for internal events.
