As a Database Migration Engineer at Mactores, you will be part of our Application & Database Modernization team, contributing to migrations from Oracle to PostgreSQL/Aurora or SQL Server to PostgreSQL, depending on the project. Aedeon and AWS tools manage the routine aspects of the migration, enabling you to focus on the conversion, testing, and reconciliation tasks. You will work closely with senior engineers to address more complex findings and performance issues, ensuring smooth database transitions.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Converting SQL, stored procedures, and database objects to PostgreSQL-compatible SQL/PLpgSQL, with guidance for complex or unclear cases. - Reviewing AWS SCT findings and identifying limitations that require senior review. - Maintaining the Flyway migration codebase, ensuring versioned scripts and repeatable migrations. - Identifying and resolving database-related application bugs, with support for more challenging issues. - Optimizing PostgreSQL queries, including execution plans and indexing. - Monitoring AWS DMS during full load and CDC phases, reporting issues to the lead engineer. - Diagnosing DMS data and performance issues. - Validating and reconciling data between source and target databases, ensuring accuracy. - Collaborating with application teams to align SQL behavior and performance expectations before cutover.

To succeed in this role, you should have:

- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field. - 3-5 years of experience as a database developer or engineer, with migration experience. - Proficiency with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or PostgreSQL/Aurora. - Practical experience in database migration projects, specifically Oracle-to-PostgreSQL or SQL Server-to-PostgreSQL. - Strong SQL skills and experience with query performance tuning. - Familiarity with AWS SCT and AWS DMS, with hands-on experience preferred. - Knowledge of schema migration tools like Flyway or Liquibase. - Understanding of PostgreSQL fundamentals, including indexing and execution plans.

Preferred qualifications include:

- Experience with AWS services such as RDS/Aurora, CloudWatch, and IAM. - Familiarity with automation/config tools like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet. - Experience with IaC tools like Terraform or CloudFormation. - AWS Certified Database - Specialty or AWS Certified Solutions Architect certifications.
